Supplemental Security Income Attorneys

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal income supplement program designed to help blind people, disabled people, and people age 65 and older who have little or no income and resources. General tax revenues, not Social Security taxes, fund the SSI program. SSI provides monthly benefits to help meet necessities such as food, clothing and shelter.
When you need the support provided by SSI benefits, the attorneys of NRS Injury Law are here for you. Let us take the time to fight the Social Security Administration (SSA) on your behalf to get you the benefits you need and deserve.

Qualifying for Social Security supplemental income

The SSA has strict rules about who qualifies for Supplemental Security Income benefits. For instance, the SSA defines blindness as 20/200 vision or less in your better eye, even with the help of corrective contact lenses. You must also have a limited field of vision. If you do not qualify for SSI benefits for blindness, you may still qualify if you have a listed disability or physical or mental impairment that prevents you from gainful employment, is expected to result in death or is expected to last for at least a year.

Disabled children and SSI benefits

Children under age 18, or under 22 if they are enrolled full time in school, may receive disability benefits if they have a physical or mental impairment that results in severe functional limitations. The disability must last or be expected to last for at least a year or be expected to result in death. The disability attorneys of NRS understand how difficult it is for parents and guardians taking care of a child with disabilities, and our attorneys work hard to present a winning case.

Applying for SSI benefits

You can apply for SSI benefits over the telephone or in person at your local Social Security office. To apply, you will need the following information:
  • Proof of age
  • Proof of citizenship or alien status record
  • Proof of income and records of unearned income and work expenses
  • Proof of resources, including bank statements, property information and insurance policies
  • Proof of living arrangements, including leases, names of household members and a list of household costs
  • Medical sources, records and medication information if you are applying as blind or disabled
  • Work history

Do not seek disability benefits without the help of an experienced SSI attorney

A disability attorney at NRS can help you apply for SSI benefits by reviewing your file, presenting supporting evidence on your behalf, representing you at hearings and helping you with appeals if your claim is denied.
